What languages can I speak?
Eighteen and counting — English, Mandarin, Hindi, Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian, Indonesian, Italian, German, Japanese, Korean, and more. Pick yours in Settings or from the menu bar, or let Plume match your Mac's language. Cleanup keeps your language and never translates.
Is Plume really free?
The app is free and stays free — download it and it types wherever your cursor is. Polishing runs one of three ways: on your Mac for free, which needs macOS 26 and nothing else at all; Plume Plus at $5 a month, which polishes more thoroughly and works on every Mac Plume supports; or your own key from Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, a fraction of a cent per request that costs us nothing. Same app every way.
Can I switch between monthly and annual?
Yes. Open the customer portal linked in your confirmation email and change your plan there. Switching starts the annual year straight away, and it ends a free trial you are still in — so you are billed for the new plan at once, less any time you have already paid for and not used. Your subscription is changed rather than duplicated, so you are never on both at the same time, and the next payment is the full $50 a year later.
What happens if I cancel Plus?
Plume keeps working. There is no account to lock and no login screen — the app is on your Mac and stays there, with your whole history intact. To move to your own key, clear the Plus key in Settings → Plume Plus first, then paste your API key — every feature returns exactly as it was. Paste nothing and Plume still types for you — and on macOS 26 it still polishes your words, on your Mac, with nothing sent anywhere. On older Macs that becomes basic tidying.
How do I install it?
Download the installer, drag Plume into Applications, and open it. The app is notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other Mac app. Grant Microphone, Speech Recognition, and Accessibility when prompted; that last one is what lets Plume type where your cursor is.
Does Plume work on Windows?
Not yet. Plume runs only on a Mac today — macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon or Intel — and the rest of this page, Plume Plus included, describes the Mac app. A Windows version is in the works. Email me when it's ready opens a short note to us in your own mail app; send it and we'll write back once, when it's out. No mail app? Write to support@plumepen.com. On Linux or a Chromebook? Tell us you'd use it — no promises yet, but every request counts.
Which apps does it work with?
Anything with a text cursor: Messages, Slack, Mail, Chrome, Notes, your IDE, ChatGPT, Claude. Plume detects the app and applies your chosen tone for that context automatically.
What does it send to the cloud?
Only the transcript, with your dictionary and style so it comes back spelled and pitched your way. On your own key it goes straight to your chosen provider; on Plume Plus it passes through our relay, which hands it to the model and stores nothing. Audio stays on your Mac whenever your language's on-device model is installed, and your history, dictionary, and Voice Profile are files on your disk. Set Auto Cleanup to None for a fully local, verbatim mode.
What about payments and Plus?
Plume Plus is $5 a month — no API key, no account, nothing to configure, and the most thorough polish on every Mac Plume supports. It is also available annually at $50 — two months free — which you choose at checkout. Either way the first 7 days are free — once per customer — and a card is taken at checkout with nothing charged until day 8, when it becomes $5 for the month or $50 for the year.
