Rambling in. Writing out.

You think out loud. Plume writes it down properly.

Can we move the standup to Friday morning? I'll send the notes after.

Features

Sounds like you, everywhere you write

Plume knows which app you're speaking into and formats your words to match.

Per-app styles

Casual in iMessage, professional in Slack, polished in Mail. Set each tone once and Plume switches automatically based on the app in front of you.

Your dictionary

Names, brands, and jargon, always spelled right. Add a correction like "verscel → Vercel" and it applies the next time you speak.

Auto Cleanup

Pick a level — None, Light, or Medium — and pick your model: Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini. It polishes your words in your voice, never someone else's.

Works in every app

Notes, Slack, Chrome, your editor. Polished text lands at your cursor, and if no text field is focused, a rescue panel keeps your words one click away.

Insights & Voice Profile

Words per minute, streaks, and app breakdowns. At 1,000 words, Plume writes your Voice Profile: your catchphrase, signature words, and peak hours.

Scratchpad

A quiet place to think out loud. Dictate drafts, to-dos, and ideas into notes that stay put until you need them.

How it works

Three seconds to ink

1

Double-tap

From any app. A slim pill with a live waveform appears at the bottom of your screen.

2

Speak naturally

Say it the way you think it, ums and all. Plume listens on-device.

3

Tap once

Clean, styled text pastes exactly where your cursor is. Changed your mind? Cancel keeps a 5-second undo.

"I built Plume because my thoughts move faster than my fingers.
Turns out, everyone's do."

Your voice stays on your Mac

Plume started as a personal tool. It treats your words the way you would.

  • Speech is transcribed by Apple's speech engine — on your Mac whenever your language's local model is installed. Audio never touches our servers; we don't have any.
  • Cleanup runs on your own Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini API key, stored in the macOS Keychain. Never on disk, never ours.
  • History and insights live in local files on your Mac. No accounts, no telemetry, no cloud.

Pricing

Free forever, on your own key

Bring an API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google, and Plume is yours — every feature, no trial clock, no catch.

Your key. Cleanup runs on your own AI account — you pay them pennies, not us rent.
Your Mac. Voice, history, and settings never leave it. We don't have servers.
Your words. Subscription tools rent you your own voice back. Plume is simply yours.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is Plume really free?

Yes. The app is free. You bring your own API key from Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini for the AI cleanup; a typical request costs a fraction of a cent, and short replies are handled locally at no cost. Paste your key once in Settings and it lives in your Keychain.

How do I install it?

Download the installer, drag Plume into Applications, and open it. The app is notarized by Apple, so it opens like any other Mac app. Grant Microphone, Speech Recognition, and Accessibility when prompted; that last one is what lets Plume type where your cursor is.

Which apps does it work with?

Anything with a text cursor: Messages, Slack, Mail, Chrome, Notes, your IDE, ChatGPT, Claude. Plume detects the app and applies your chosen tone for that context automatically.

What does it send to the cloud?

Only the finished transcript goes to your chosen provider (Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini) for cleanup, using your key. Audio never leaves your Mac. Set Auto Cleanup to None for a fully local, verbatim mode.

What about payments and Pro features?

Plume is free while in early access. A Plus tier is on the roadmap, and early users will always keep what they have today.

Give your words wings.

Free for macOS. Thirty seconds to install, and a lot less typing forever.
