The short version: Plume has no accounts, no analytics inside the app,
and no servers that touch your words. Your voice is transcribed on your Mac, and the
cleaned-up text goes only to the AI provider you chose, under your own API key. We never
see it.
Your voice and your words
Audio never touches our servers — we don't have any. Transcription
uses Apple's built-in speech recognition, on your Mac whenever an on-device model for
your language is installed. For languages without a local model, Apple's speech service
transcribes under Apple's
privacy terms. Plume itself never records, stores, or transmits audio.
Text goes only where you point it. To polish your words, Plume sends
the transcribed text over HTTPS directly to the AI provider you configured — Anthropic
(Claude), OpenAI (ChatGPT), or Google (Gemini) — using your own API key. That request is
between your Mac and your provider; it does not pass through any server of ours.
Their handling of it is governed by their terms:

Everything stays local. Your history, dictionary, styles, and settings
live on your Mac. Your API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain. Delete any of it
anytime — we couldn't recover it for you if we wanted to, because we never had it.
The app
No telemetry. The app contains no analytics, tracking, or crash
reporting that sends data anywhere.
Automatic updates. Plume periodically checks our update feed to see
whether a newer version exists. That check is a standard web request and includes your
app version; it contains no personal information or unique identifier.
This website
Our site is static and sets no tracking cookies, so there's nothing to consent to.
Our hosting provider (Vercel) produces standard, short-lived server logs
(IP address, browser type) to run the service.
We use Vercel's privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to count page visits in
aggregate. It cannot identify you.
